Niagara’s Natural Resources

Niagara’s Natural Resources

Niagara’s Natural Resources

April 17, 2017

Residents of Niagara take great pride in their land, hiking on the trails, fishing in the creeks, canoeing on the rivers, hunting in their woodlot, swimming in the lakes, relaxing under a park tree or eating fresh vegetables from the market. They make the most of their natural world and share long family traditions of outdoor recreation with the next generation. With this love for the outdoors they believe in the role of individuals to be stewards of the Region’s natural resources.

As cities and towns expand into areas that are now forest, field, and pasture, greater demands are placed on our urban and rural environment. Our streams and rivers will flow through an increasingly polluted, populated and complex landscape; air quality will decrease and air temperature will increase due to hardscaping and tree loss and our native plant and animal species will suffer due to habitat loss.

It can be difficult to tell how many eggs a female It can be difficult to tell how many eggs a female monarch butterfly lays in the wild. The average is probably somewhere between 100 and 300 eggs. Studies of captive female monarchs have of about 700 eggs per female over two to five weeks of egg laying! Wow! That's egg-citing!
